Frequently Asked Questions

The catalogue holds 25 team profiles, covering national sides, domestic sides and franchise squads. You can filter them by country, by team type and by gender.

A national team represents a country and is picked by its cricket board. A franchise team is a club in a league such as a domestic Twenty20 competition, and it signs players from any country. Only national sides appear in the international rankings.

It depends on the format, which is exactly why the rankings are kept separately for Test, ODI and T20. The rankings page shows the current order for each of them from the latest snapshot we hold.

Test status belongs to the full members of the International Cricket Council, a group of twelve. Every other member country plays one-day and Twenty20 internationals instead.

The country and team type, the squad where we hold one, and the profile detail that has been recorded for that side. Each squad member links to a full player profile.

Yes. Women's sides are in the same catalogue and can be filtered by gender. The women's cricket page brings them together with the women's matches, players and tournaments.

Because no squad data has been recorded for it yet. Squads are attached as the player data links up, so a team can be listed correctly and still be waiting for its player list.

About the Team Database

Cricket is a contest of nations and franchises, and at the heart of every match are the elevens who take the field. Here we look at the teams that shape the game: the proud national sides of the men's and women's game, from the established giants to the rising challengers, and the star-studded IPL franchises that have redefined the modern spectacle. Each has its own story, its own rivalries, and its own cast of characters.

Our coverage goes beyond match reports to the fabric of these teams: the squads, the leaders, the emerging talents, and the veterans who carry the weight of expectation. Whether it is the tactical shifts in a Test side, the balance of an ODI unit, or the firepower of a T20 line-up, understanding the team is the first step to understanding the cricket. That is what you will find here, for the teams that make the game what it is.
