About the Player

Tahlia McGrath's route to international cricket was a rugged one. The Adelaide native debuted for Australia in 2016, but years of drifting in and out of a world-beating squad, fighting for a middle-order spot, forged her resilience. Her breakthrough arrived in the home summer of 2021-22, when a dominant Ashes and a stunning start to her T20I career, including 91 not out against India on debut, cemented her place.

McGrath's game is built on balance and power. A compact right-hander, she punishes anything short and works the ball into gaps, lifting her tempo as she reads the innings. What sets her apart is the second string: medium pace that is not express but extracts awkward bounce and keeps batters guessing. That dual threat has made her a match-winner with bat and ball, especially in the shortest format, where she has ranked among the world's top T20I all-rounders.

She was part of Australia's 2022 ODI World Cup triumph, won Commonwealth Games gold the same year, famously playing the final shortly after testing positive for Covid, and added the 2023 T20 World Cup. Her leadership has been recognised too, with the vice-captaincy of the national side, stints as stand-in captain, and the captaincy of the Adelaide Strikers, whom she has led to WBBL titles. Calm at the crease and shrewd in the field, McGrath remains the player Australia turns to when a contest hangs in the balance.
