About the Player

Few cricketers have fused leg-spin with such explosive batting as Rashid Khan, and none have done it at his pace. His googly is the sharpest weapon in white-ball cricket, fired in at a speed that forces batters to defend before they have read the turn. What truly separates him is his temperament: a boundary never disturbs his rhythm, and in the death overs he hunts wickets even when batsmen are trying to hit him out of the ground.

Born into a cricketing family in Nangarhar, he was playing for Afghanistan by 17. His international debut came in 2015, and within three years he was the world's top-ranked T20I bowler, a status he held for long stretches. His control is phenomenal for a wrist-spinner, and his variations make him a threat in every phase of the shortest format.

Rashid's batting is no afterthought. He strikes the ball with clean, violent efficiency, improvises well against pace, and has hit vital late-innings sixes for Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans in the IPL, where he helped the Titans win the title in their first season in 2022. His fielding is electric, with safe hands and a direct-hit arm.

Beyond his own numbers, he has been a pioneer for Afghan cricket, leading the charge that brought the country's players into global franchise leagues. He captains Afghanistan's T20 side and led the team to its first World Cup semi-final at the 2024 T20 World Cup. At full flight, Rashid Khan is the most exhilarating cricketer his country has produced.
