Lasith Malinga

Opposing batters feared Lasith Malinga's slinging round-arm action and his uncanny ability to york them at will, especially at the death. His low, skidding deliveries were almost impossible to pick, and he used them to devastating effect in limited-overs cricket. With those distinctive blond curls and a whippy release, he could turn a tight chase into a collapse inside four balls.

Malinga is the only bowler with two World Cup hat-tricks, including four wickets in four balls against South Africa in 2007, and he later added four in four again against New Zealand in a T20 international. He captained Sri Lanka to the 2014 T20 World Cup title and was a mainstay of the Mumbai Indians franchise, winning multiple IPL crowns and standing for years as the league's leading wicket-taker. Though injuries shortened his later years, his pinpoint yorkers remained a formidable weapon to the end. He retired from all cricket in 2021 and has since worked as a fast-bowling coach, leaving behind a reputation as one of the most inventive bowlers of his era.
