David Warner

David Warner never needed the captaincy to set a dressing room's tone. He opened for Australia with a streetwise aggression that spread through the side, and his crouched, coiled stance at the crease forced opposition plans to change before a ball was bowled. His approach reshaped how Australia chased in limited-overs cricket, turning steep targets into questions of timing and nerve.

Picked for Australia's T20 side in 2009 before he had played a first-class match, Warner became a Test opener who defied convention, compiling more than 8,700 Test runs at a strike rate that unsettled bowlers. He won the Allan Border Medal three times, the World Cup in 2015 and 2023, the T20 World Cup in 2021, and played in Australia's victorious 2023 World Test Championship final. His 335 not out against Pakistan in 2019 is the second-highest Test score by an Australian. He rebuilt his game after the 2018 ball-tampering scandal and a year-long ban, and bowed out of international cricket in 2024.
