Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid anchored India's batting for sixteen years with an unyielding technique and a temperament that made him the side's crisis solver. Known as The Wall, he faced the new ball, batted long spells at No. 3, and set standards of diligence that reshaped how Indian cricket viewed preparation. His concentration was a weapon, and his upright defence against both pace and spin made him a master of difficult conditions.

Dravid's numbers speak of consistency: more than 13,000 Test runs at an average above 52, with 36 hundreds, many of them in impossible situations. He also scored 10,889 one-day runs, adapting his tempo to the format's demands, and even kept wicket in ODIs for a spell to balance the side. His 270 in Rawalpindi in 2004 and 233 at Adelaide in 2003 were innings of near-flawless endurance that set up famous away wins.

Beyond batting, Dravid was a leader of substance. He captained India to a Test series win in England in 2007, their first there in 21 years. After retiring in 2012, he coached India's Under-19 and A sides, grooming players such as Rishabh Pant, before serving as head coach of the senior team from 2021 to 2024. His final assignment ended with India lifting the 2024 T20 World Cup, after which he took charge of Rajasthan Royals in the IPL.

Dravid received the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan and was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame in 2018. Few careers have been so completely devoted to service of the game over personal glory.
