About the Player

Six sixes in an over. That is the image that defines Yuvraj Singh for cricket fans worldwide, but his career was far more than a single spell of destruction against Stuart Broad at the 2007 World Twenty20. He was the flamboyant left-hander who could dismantle any attack on his day, a match-winner who combined raw power with audacious strokeplay. His crowning achievement came in 2011, when he was named Player of the Tournament in India's World Cup victory, scoring 362 runs and taking 15 wickets with his useful left-arm spin.

Yuvraj's journey was both brilliant and turbulent. He burst onto the scene in 2000, and his fearless batting, epitomised by his assault on England in the 2002 NatWest final, made him a star. But he also faced injuries and inconsistency, and shortly after the 2011 World Cup he was diagnosed with a rare germ-cell cancer. He underwent treatment in the United States and returned to play international cricket again within a year, a comeback that moved the whole country. He finished with 8,701 ODI runs, including 14 centuries, and was a key figure in India's rise as a limited-overs power, though his Test career never quite matched his white-ball brilliance.
