About the Player

Sophie Ecclestone is the most complete left-arm spinner in the women's game, a bowler who turned accuracy into an art form. Her height, high release point and subtle variations make her a nightmare for batters across formats. She rarely concedes, constantly probes, and picks up wickets with a consistency that has made her the backbone of England's attack since her teenage years.

Her rise was rapid. She made her international debut at 17, and within a few years was ranked the world's number-one T20I bowler, a position she has held for long stretches. Her ability to bowl in the powerplay and at the death, unusual for a spinner, adds a dimension few can match. She has repeatedly worked through top orders on flat pitches, proving she is a strike bowler rather than a holding option.

At the 2022 50-over World Cup in New Zealand she was the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 21, including a six-for against South Africa in the semi-final. In franchise cricket she has been just as effective, turning out for Manchester Originals in The Hundred and UP Warriorz in the Women's Premier League, with an economy rate remarkably low for a frontline spinner and a knack for breaking partnerships when the game is in the balance.

A former ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year, Ecclestone remains at the peak of her powers and is closing in on the all-time England wicket records. Her competitive streak and obvious enjoyment on the field have made her a fan favourite, and a model for aspiring spinners worldwide.
