Ross Taylor

Ross Taylor is among the finest middle-order batters New Zealand have produced, a man who reshaped the No.4 role with his blend of brute power and deft touch. For over a decade he was the glue holding the Black Caps' batting together, particularly in the 50-over format, where his ability to accelerate against spin in the middle overs became a signature. His career-best 181 not out against England in Dunedin in 2018, made while batting on one leg with a hamstring strain, showcased the full repertoire of drives, pulls and slog-sweeps.

What set Taylor apart was durability and adaptation. He began as a hard-hitting top-order player, but team needs saw him settle in the middle order, where he evolved into a master finisher of innings.
